It is with great pleasure that we announce Velindre Cancer Centre as our 2024 Charity Partner, and we look forward to raising thousands of pounds for this local charity through several events and initiatives throughout this year.
So, why Velindre Cancer Centre?
After asking the staff at ActiveQuote to provide their suggestions on who they would like us to support, Velindre came out on top. The reasons given for the nominations were personal and very touching, plus, as a local charity we felt our donation might even contribute to supporting people we may know. We also see this as an opportunity to get involved with Velindre by volunteering at the care centre in anyway we can. This might be visiting those who may not have family or friends while they are receiving treatment, to helping redecorate a therapy room. This year will be dedicated to helping them in any way we can, and our charity champions and staff look forward to doing what we can, when we can.
On Friday 12th January one of our Charity Champions Tracy Carwardine met Kylie McKee who is the Fundraising Manager for the Cancer Centre. This was an opportunity to introduce ourselves to Velindre and let them know of our plans for 2024.
Kylie was incredibly appreciative that ActiveQuote have chosen to support them in 2024 and has agreed to support us with our upcoming events.
Kylie was able to share with Tracy what our donation will mean to Velindre and how it will be used.
Donations given to Velindre Cancer Centre are used to help fund 50% of all Clinical Nuse Specialist roles at the centre, help toward groundbreaking research, clinical trials, innovation, and development, to provide children’s resources and complementary therapies and psychology to name but a few.
It is believed that one in two people will develop cancer at some point in their lives, meaning our contribution will be used to continue the amazing work they carry out every day to those who need it.
So, what events do we have planned?
Where do we start – 2024 is going to be an exciting and busy year for fundraising events.
Corporate Charity Golf Day at The Celtic Manor, Newport
We look forward to returning to the Celtic Manor Resort in July with what will be our 3rd Charity Golf Day. Just as in previous years, we will again be inviting our partners, insurers, businesses from the wider community and of course ActiveQuote staff to take part, as well as obtaining sponsorship for the event to raise as much money as possible.
Yorkshire three Peaks Challenge
On Friday 12th July, members of ActiveQuote will be making the long journey to Yorkshire in preparation to complete all three Yorkshire peaks.
After a restful night on the Friday, all those taking part will start the challenge at 07:00 on Saturday 13th. In total they will be walking over 24 miles and clambering up Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, and all within the 12 hours allocated to the challenge.
They will be tired and hungry, and muscles they never knew they had will be hurting, but we already know they will all be incredibly proud of their achievements and we are already proud of those who have signed up, as it’s no mean feat.
Not only will those taking part experience a once in a lifetime challenge and make incredible memories, but each have been tasked with raising a minimum amount for charity.
A night of entertainment with Tracy
On Saturday 21st September 2024 our very own Customer Experience Manager Tracy Carwardine will be performing at our ‘Night of Entertainment’. Before starting at ActiveQuote nearly 10 years ago Tracy was a solo vocalist working on the live entertainment circuit in and around south Wales. And while Tracy has not picked up a microphone for as many years, she has decided to come out of retirement for us. We know Tracy can sing, but we have never had the pleasure in witnessing her sing in real life, so we look forward to supporting her with this event.
We asked Tracy why, and here’s what she had to say.
“I recently attended a gala dinner at St Peters Hall where there was live entertainment, and while listening to the four-piece band, I was reminded of how much enjoyment I used to get out of singing.
I’m not going to lie, I am going to have to practice, a lot, but I am excited for the event and being able to use my talent to contribute towards the ActiveQuote charity partner total”.
She went on to say.
“Kris Agland, who is the owner of St Peters Hall and a friend of mine has already agreed to provide the use of the hall at no cost, which is a great start to ensuring we raise a great amount on the night.
Tickets will be sold for the event before, and on the night of the event and will include a raffle with some fantastic prizes. And having organised events like this in the past, I know I will have the support of family and friends, and hopefully my ActiveQuote colleague too”.
As well as the three big events mentioned here, we will also be holding smaller events such as bake sales and toastie days in a bid to raise as much money as possible.
As a company we are proud to be supporting the work carried out by Velindre and look forward to handing over a cheque at the end of the year for everything we manage to raise in 2024.
Wish us luck!
