The future’s bright when it comes to diversity at ActiveQuote - all the bright colours of the rainbow, to be precise! We’ve been celebrating LGBT History Month to support our lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans colleagues and to promote equality in the workplace.
This year’s LGBT History Month has a theme of peace, activism and reconciliation, and we marked the occasion with a fun day last Friday where members of staff wore bright colours and created a mural of painted handprints.
We’re proud of the diverse team working in our Cardiff Bay HQ, but we know that not all workforces are the same. Research from LGBT organisation Stonewall found that more than a third of LGBT staff (35%) have hidden that they are LGBT at work for fear of discrimination. One in ten black, Asian and minority ethnic LGBT employees have been physically attacked by customers or colleagues in the last year, while 38% of bi employees aren’t out to anyone at work.
ActiveQuote.com head of partnerships Rod Jones said: “With more than a third of LGBT employees hiding that they are LGBT at work for fear of discrimination, our aim is to create a culture and safe environment that welcomes all employees to be themselves in the workplace.
“To mark LGBT History Month, we chose to show our support here at ActiveQuote by dressing in colourful clothing and creating a hand painted mural, symbolising unity.”
We have a full employee engagement calendar lined up for 2019 to support some of our favourite causes, including National Pet Month, World Ocean Day and mental health campaigns. Keep reading to find out more!
