Top 5 workplace benefits include health insurance and life insurance

Private medical insurance and life insurance are two of the top 5 most desired workplace benefits, according to a new survey.

Aviva’s first Working Lives report questioned more than 2,000 private sector workers and 210 employers about a number of issues relating to work and financial management.

The top five benefits valued by employees (and which they are offered) are: annual bonus (36%), pension (16%), health insurance (15%), life insurance (14%), and non financial benefits (14%), such as discounts on products, subsidised gym membership and crèche facilities.

Graham Boffey, managing director of corporate benefits at Aviva, claimed that workers want "more relevant benefits that help them make the most of their money". He said:

"Broader workplace savings and benefits are a cost-effective way of boosting employees' total packages beyond basic pay."

For employers the issue of money is absolutely central. Over a third (39%) said they were looking for ways to motivate their workers without unduly increasing pay.

However, many workers do not have the benefit of a corporate health insurance scheme or life insurance policy. Luckily, there are plenty of affordable options to choose from as an individual.
