Swine flu contingency plan urged for businesses

Published on 07/09/2009
Businesses should put in place a contingency plan in case of a second wave of swine flu.

That is according to Ben Willmott, senior public policy adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, who has suggested that businesses need to make sure they "can operate" should widespread absences occur.

"The first thing is that you make sure that you have a business continuity plan in place," he said.

"Identify the key staff and staff with transferrable skills who can adapt and fill in for absent colleagues [and] if additional training is to be given to staff so that they can fill in unfamiliar roles when necessary."

According to the Health Protection Agency, there has been a further reduction in the levels of flu-like illness.

In the week ending August 30th, the GP consultation rate for flu-like illness had fallen compared to the previous week.

The north and central parts of the country were found to have decreasing rates, while the south stayed stable.

Excellent service. Explained everything in detail and really helped to find the right insurance best suited to my needs - which wasn't necessarily the most expensive.
