Sick kids cost parents valuable working days

Published on 19/03/2010
More than three-quarters (79 per cent) of parents in the UK have taken extended time off work to care for their sick children.

That is according to new research from Carex, which found 43 per cent of Brits have had to forfeit wages to look after their kids while they are ill.

Family health expert Dr Carol Cooper said: "Parents know that coughs and sneezes spread diseases, but what's perhaps not so obvious is that touching dirty surfaces also spreads common infections."

She advised that parents and teachers need to enforce a strict hand washing policy in the home and at school to reduce the spread of common illnesses such as colds, flu and stomach bugs.

Recent statistics from the Department for Children, Schools and Families show that 62 per cent of the authorised absences from primary schools in the autumn of 2008 and spring 2009 terms were due to illness.

Proactive, efficient, and offered me insurance I need. I would say half price I would end up paying if I did it by myself. Many thanks.

Excellent service. Explained everything in detail and really helped to find the right insurance best suited to my needs - which wasn't necessarily the most expensive.
