Private medical insurance exam launched for intermediaries

Published on 12/04/2010
The Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) has teamed up with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) to launch a new private medical insurance (PMI) exam for health insurance advisors.

Designed to inspire confidence and trust in intermediaries among consumers shopping for cover, the examination is set to be introduced from April 28th.

Independent advisors taking the examination will have the chance to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the key factors and principles underlining the health insurance industry.

Steve Jenkins, director of financial services markets at the CII, said: "We are very pleased to have been given the opportunity to work with AMII to develop this new examination.

"The new qualification has been created to provide a benchmark for standards of professionalism and expertise that will meet both the current and future needs of the PMI sector."

After three years in development, the new test will cover key areas of the UK's health insurance market, including product types, risk assessments, underwriting considerations and the respective roles of intermediaries and health insurance providers.

AMII was established in 1998 as a trade body for independent medical insurance advisers based in the UK.

Taking out private medical insurance from an advisor gives consumers access to specialist independent advice on a range of schemes from a variety of insurers.

Excellent service. Explained everything in detail and really helped to find the right insurance best suited to my needs - which wasn't necessarily the most expensive.
