Possible new drug in development for lung cancer patients

Published on 13/11/2009
Researchers at Imperial College London are set to launch clinical trials of a potential new drug for the treatment of lung cancer.

The team of scientists has already produced research showing that the new medication is effective on small cell lung cancer tumours in mice, stopping growth and complementing chemotherapy treatment.

In response to the work being done, Rosemary Gillespie, chief executive of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said: "We always want to see new drugs in the pipeline because the drugs that join production and development today are going to be the treatments of tomorrow.

"There are so few treatments for lung cancer and at the moment the outcomes for people who are affected by the disease generally are poor."

According to Cancer Research UK, only seven per cent of lung cancer patients survive the disease for at least five years after diagnosis.

Figures show that around 39,000 people were diagnosed with the disease in 2006.

Proactive, efficient, and offered me insurance I need. I would say half price I would end up paying if I did it by myself. Many thanks.

Excellent service. Explained everything in detail and really helped to find the right insurance best suited to my needs - which wasn't necessarily the most expensive.
