Parkinson calls for dignified social health care

Published on 15/01/2010
Sir Michael Parkinson has called for dignity to be at the centre of care for older people in the UK.

As a national dignity ambassador, he believes more needs to be done to improve the NHS and care services nationwide.

Emma Stone, assistant director of policy and research at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, was in agreement with Sir Michael, adding that it is important those affected by the adult social care system are heard.

She said: "The UK care system needs to be clearer, fairer and more sustainable and must ensure quality services for all.

"It is crucial that the needs of the increasing number of older people remain high on the agenda and essential for a commitment to be made to ensure real, lasting change."

Last month, the Care Quality Commission reported that one quarter of councils are rated only adequate in terms of giving people choice and control over their care.

While ratings for adult social care providers have improved, one in six is still found to be poor or adequate.

Proactive, efficient, and offered me insurance I need. I would say half price I would end up paying if I did it by myself. Many thanks.

Excellent service. Explained everything in detail and really helped to find the right insurance best suited to my needs - which wasn't necessarily the most expensive.
