NHS criticised for paying 'displaced' executives in Wales

Published on 22/12/2009
The Conservative Party has criticised what it believes is a total waste of money by the NHS in Wales.

According to figures requested from the Assembly government by the Western Mail, some 50 top executives whose jobs were cut in October are still being paid by the NHS.

The newspaper estimated that the total annual cost of these 'displaced' executives to the public health service is £3.7 million.

Commenting on the revelation, Tory shadow health minister for Wales Andrew RT Davis said the fact that the NHS is paying so much to people who no longer work for it was "scandalous".

"We are talking about serious sums of money, not just in salaries but also national insurance and pension contributions," he said, adding that resources should instead be spent on frontline services.

"By reducing the payroll in Labour’s bloated NHS bureaucracy, the Assembly government could invest in care for stroke patients, for example, and turn it into a truly world-beating service."

Earlier this month, it was suggested by an expert from the British Dental Association that the NHS is struggling to meet patient demand for oral care.

Proactive, efficient, and offered me insurance I need. I would say half price I would end up paying if I did it by myself. Many thanks.

Excellent service. Explained everything in detail and really helped to find the right insurance best suited to my needs - which wasn't necessarily the most expensive.
