Eating meat may lead to need for a healthcare plan

Published on 22/07/2010
A healthcare plan may be needed by those who eat a high quantity of meat as doing so has been found to cause weight gain.

According to a study by researchers at Imperial College London, those who eat more meat are likely to gain weight compared to those that eat less, even if they consume the same number of calories.

The team weighed of more than 100,000 men and 270,000 women at the beginning and end of a five-year period.

They analysed the diets of the participants during this time based on questionnaires they had filled out.

After adjusting for other lifestyle factors, such as smoking, drinking and not doing enough exercise, they found that for every additional 250g of meat a person ate daily they were liable to gain 4.4lb more weight over five years.

Chicken was found to be the meat most strongly linked with weight gain, followed by processed meats such as bacon and sausages, the study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, reported.

Being overweight can cause a number of health problems with many diseases, including type two diabetes and heart disease, linked with obesity.

Proactive, efficient, and offered me insurance I need. I would say half price I would end up paying if I did it by myself. Many thanks.

Excellent service. Explained everything in detail and really helped to find the right insurance best suited to my needs - which wasn't necessarily the most expensive.
