Cancer survivors 'require ongoing clinical monitoring'

Published on 11/12/2009
Adult survivors of childhood and adolescent cancers are at risk of cardiovascular complications years after treatment, according to new research.

Results of a study published in the British Medical Journal indicated that young adults who have come through cancer require ongoing clinical monitoring, particularly as they approach ages in which cardiovascular disease becomes more prevalent.

In order to stay in optimum health, Dr Rachel Thompson, science programme manager from the World Cancer Research Fund, advised taking positive steps towards a better lifestyle.

She explained: "There is only limited evidence on how cancer survivors can reduce their risk of cancer recurring. In the absence of better evidence, the best approach is to follow the general recommendations for cancer prevention.

"These include following a healthy diet, being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight."

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development recently reported that internationally comparable indicators on quality of care show progress in treating serious conditions such as cancer.

Proactive, efficient, and offered me insurance I need. I would say half price I would end up paying if I did it by myself. Many thanks.

Excellent service. Explained everything in detail and really helped to find the right insurance best suited to my needs - which wasn't necessarily the most expensive.
