ActiveQuote, the online comparison service and broker for health and protection insurance, has received a coveted Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
ActiveQuote receives a Queen’s Award in Innovation, recognising their achievements in using technology to innovate and simplify the UK health and income protection insurance markets.
Launched in 2009, ActiveQuote was the first ever online comparison service for health insurance, created to help consumers quickly and easily compare the policy features and prices of complicated insurance policies. Seven years on, they now help power the comparison engines of some of the most well-known UK aggregator sites, including Confused.com, Gocompare, Money.co.uk and uSwitch.com.
The prestigious Queen’s Awards recognise organisations’ contributions in three key areas: international trade, innovation and sustainable development.
Widely regarded as the most prestigious business awards in the country, 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the Queen’s Awards scheme. ActiveQuote is one of only four businesses based in Wales to be recognised this year.
On announcing the winners, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Sajid Javid said:
“The Queen’s Awards are a great way of celebrating the best of British business. Whether you’re a disruptive start-up making life easier for your customers, or a large company with a blockbuster product, these awards recognise your contribution to enterprise.
“We are a country full of exciting and innovative businesses that deserve to be celebrated. I’d like to commend all the winners for their hard work in creating jobs for people and driving our growing economy.”
Dr Richard Theo, Managing Director of ActiveQuote said:
“It is an absolute honour to learn that ActiveQuote is to receive a Queen’s Award for innovation, the most prestigious accolade that could be bestowed on our organisation.
At ActiveQuote we have created an online service that allows people to take back control by comparing and buying complicated insurance products with complete confidence. The same founding principles apply to my latest venture, Wealthify.com, which uses technology to democratise investing, allowing traditional savers to become investors and share in stock market returns.
“We sincerely thank our insurance and price comparison partners for their support and belief in us, without which our success would not have been possible, and the Welsh Government for the supportive and creative environment they have engendered for small businesses in Wales.
“This Queen’s Awards for Innovation belongs equally to each and every member of the ActiveQuote team, and will stand proudly as ratification of the great work that they do.”
