Healthcare Cash Plan
WPA’s NHS Top-Up Health Care Cash Plan provides a cash sum towards supplementary healthcare costs. The Cash Plan offers cashback for routine dental and optical treatment, essential European cover, NHS car parking and advanced drugs not available on the NHS.

1901 | A group of workers founded the Reading Work People’s Voluntary Hospital Contributory Fund in 1901 |
1939 | In 1939 it merged with the Bristol Hospital Fund |
1949 | It was renamed the Western Provident Association (WPA). |
1992 | WPA moved from Bristol to a specially designed building in Taunton, Somerset. |
1997 | Norwich Union staff falsely claimed over email that WPA was insolvent. Norwich Union made a High Court apology and paid £450,000 in damages and costs to settle the case. |
2007 | In 2007 WPA launched its Top-Up health insurance plan supplementing NHS treatment. The first policy, called mycancerdrugs, was the first of its kind in the world to fund cancer drugs not available on the NHS. Other insurance companies have since entered the top-up market. |
