What are the exclusions applicable to critical illness cover with LV= Combined Life & Critical Illness Guaranteed Premiums?
There are 3 exclusions for critical illness cover. The alcohol or drug abuse exclusions and self-inflicted act are limited to a specified number of conditions, whilst a claimant must return to a listed country to substantiate a claim for critical illness cover.
1. Alcohol or drug abuse
- Cardiomyopathy related to alcohol or drug abuse.
- HIV infection resulting from sexual activity or drug abuse
- Liver failure is secondary to alcohol or drug misuse.
- Accident Hospitalisation cover - any accident caused by taking alcohol or drugs, or where it was a contributing factor.
2. Self-Inflicted
- Accident Hospitalisation cover - any accident caused by a self-inflicted act
3. Travelling abroad
If you are diagnosed with one of the critical illnesses listed, we will pay your claim provided the diagnosis has been confirmed by a doctor who practices in one of the following countries:
- Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Channel Islands, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg , Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK or USA.
If you are diagnosed in a country not listed above, you will need to go to one of the countries listed, so that you can have that diagnosis confirmed, or to have the operation.
For the Double Accident Benefit for the purposes of this, an 'accident' means any violent, external and visible event that happens by chance, solely and independently of any other cause, which results in a bodily injury being sustained.
It doesn't include any event where the injury is caused by, or a contributing factor is:
- an intentional self-inflicted act
- an act deliberately inflicted by another person
- taking drugs
- drinking alcohol
- consuming poisonous substances (including inhaling gases or fumes).
- actively taking part in any criminal or fraudulent act
- actively taking part in any riot, civil commotion, uprising or war (whether declared or not), or any related act or incident
- taking part in any form of motor racing (including time trials)
- taking part in any form of aviation, including travelling in an aircraft (except as a fare-paying passenger)
- natural causes, or an illness or disease of any kind.
Would I be excluded from LV= Combined Life & Critical Illness Guaranteed Premiums if
- I worked in armed force - Membership of the armed forces is not excluded
- Had a pre-existing condition – Pre-existing conditions are not excluded in respect of the main policy benefits, but are excluded in respect of children's cover.
LV= won't pay a claim for children's cover if:
you were aware of an increased risk of your child suffering the critical illness before the start date of your policy (for example you had received medical advice or counselling in relation to the critical illness before your policy started),
or
symptoms relating to the critical illness had arisen before the start date of your policy. However if your child had already suffered the critical illness, and had been discharged from the follow-up, and had not consulted any medical practitioner, or received treatment or advice for the condition for at least five years before the diagnosis of the critical illness, then they would still be covered

The LV= Health and Wellbeing Line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This service is completely free and confidential, and you and your family can use it as many times as you need.
Health and medical support - You'll have access to a team of trained medical professionals who can answer questions and offer you practical advice and support. This could be anything from childcare issues to what to expect if you (or a member of your family) needs to have an operation.
Counselling Service - Sometimes it's easier to talk to a stranger than to relatives or friends. Counselling is a talking therapy that can help you if your going through a difficult time and don't know who to turn to.
Our experienced counsellors will be able to give you advice on how to cope with any issues you may be facing. Including things like relationship difficulties, bereavement or stress. To make things even easier, you can choose to work with the same counsellor on an on-going basis. Paying for private counselling can be very expensive, and waiting lists for the NHS can be long. Remote Physiotherapy
With our Remote Physiotherapy Service, your clients can have access to up to five remote physiotherapy consultations (per year) with a physiotherapist, without the need for GP referral. This includes diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating any musculoskeletal pain or injuries such as back pain, sports injuries or sprains.
How does it work?
Using the app by smartphone, your client can arrange a video consultation, and get an initial assessment by a qualified physiotherapist. The physiotherapist can then offer advice and work with your client to develop a bespoke treatment programme, this may include an exercise plan accessed through the app. If needed, your client may also be sent an information pack and equipment to support their treatment, such as a foam roller and exercise bands.
The remote appointments can be arranged at a time convenient to them, removing the need to take time out of work for their treatment, preventing disruption to their everyday life.
Remote Psychological Services
Your client's mental health is just as important as any physical sickness or injury. That's why we now have a dedicated service to provide mental health support to your clients. With 1 in 4 adults in the UK suffering from mental health conditions we wanted to provide great services which add value to your client's lives.
Through the LV= Doctors Services app, your client can get remote emotional and behavioural support from a qualified therapist, who is trained to offer counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as well as other mental health treatments. They can get up to five consultations a year with a specialist, helping them to address any mental health concerns.
How does it work?
Your client can arrange an initial consultation through the LV= Doctors Services app on their smartphone, and speak to a qualified counsellor, therapist or psychologist via video or a phone call. Based on your client's needs, a treatment plan is developed and may include an online programme, for example, online CBT sessions. The therapist is also able to refer your client for a face to face consultation if needed.

To receive a discounted health MOT, the policyholder or life insured will need to call Square Health on 0333 577 7105 and quote their LV= policy number.
What does it involve?
You will have a range of assessments carried out by a medical professional at a surgery at a time convenient to them. The type and number of tests your client has will depend on the Health MOT they choose and whether they add optional extras. The assessments could include:
