If the cover includes optional total disability
AIG will pay a benefit if the person covered is incapacitated for more than 26 weeks and meets our definition of ‘total disability’ before the end date shown on the cover summary, but their condition doesn't meet our definition of critical illness or total permanent disability. We explain how we define incapacitated below. After AIG has paid the full current sum assured, the cover stops.
Total Disability
The person covered meets the definition of incapacitated that applies to them. They need to be incapacitated for a continuous period longer than 26 weeks.
Total disability is paid as a monthly benefit where the condition may improve to the extent that the person covered no longer meets the definition of incapacitated that applies to them.
Where the person covered meets the definition of incapacitated that applies to them and the condition is, or becomes a total permanent disability, the benefit will be payable to the owner of the cover as a lump sum.
For the above definition, disabilities for which the relevant specialists cannot give a clear prognosis are not covered.
Winston's Wish

The added-value service will be dependant on the individual's needs. For example, children, a remaining parent or carer can get advice over the phone, one-to-one support sessions or residential courses, as long as they can provide Winston's Wish with the relevant policy details.
Sum Assured in Instalments - The sum assured is not payable in instalments, unless the client is claiming Optional Total Disability Benefit.
The Total Disability benefit is the lower of 1% of the current sum assured or 50% of the client's gross monthly income, paid on a monthly basis.

Are there any claims support services for AIG Life CIC Start Critical Illness with Term Assurance?
Support during a claim
If AIG has agreed that the person claiming may have a valid claim, they may pay up to £300 for services that support the person covered or their family. The services that are covered by this support payment will depend on the circumstances but could range from physiotherapy or counselling to the cost of taking taxis to hospital appointments.
AIG needs to approve the services, and agree on its cost before they are used. Whether AIG approves the service depends on the situation of the person covered and the advice of their doctor. AIG will refund the cost as soon as we have received the receipts for the services that we agreed.
The claims advisor will explain the services that AIG can pay for.
Please remember that if AIG pays for support services, it does not necessarily mean they will approve a claim on your cover.
AIG will not pay for support services in relation to a waiver of the premium claim.
Any payments made under the claims support fund will not be deducted from the benefit payable.
