BMI Healthcare campaign to raise awareness of health insurance among GPs

Published on 03/08/2012

BMI Healthcare, a leading UK private health group, is campaigning to raise awareness of health insurance among GPs.

BMI Healthcare has appointed Doctors.net.uk to raise awareness of the private sector for patients who cannot get the treatment they desire on the NHS.

The 12 month campaign will involve the launch of a dedicated microsite featuring a range of resources, including topical items on private healthcare, polls and case studies. Nigel Moon, head of marketing services at BMI Healthcare, said:

"The current changes to the NHS mean GPs need critical information about the alternatives available to their patients should they need or want to have treatment in the private sector."

Simon Grime, managing director of communications for Doctors.net.uk, said that the campaign should be a "valuable resource" for GPs at a time when NHS budgets are being cut and private care referrals are likely to become increasingly common.

Many treatments are not widely available on the NHS because they are not deemed to be cost effective by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Often the only way to access these treatments is by paying out of pocket, or through a health insurance policy.

Doctors.net.uk is currently the largest and most active network of medical professionals in the UK.
