Health Insurance Company History
| 1938 1940 |
AXA PPP healthcare, first known as London Association for Hospital Services, was conceived in 1938 as a health insurance scheme for middle income earners in London. |
| 1941 1960 |
In 1943 AXA PPP launched its Hospital Service Plan, costing two pounds twelve shillings a year. Membership was extended to the rest of the UK in 1950. |
| 1970 1980 |
In the 1970s and 1980s the company launched a number of ground breaking initiatives. These included Family Masterplan, Private Hospital Plan and Retirement Health Plan, the first private medical insurance scheme for the over 60s. |
| 1990 2000 |
AXA PPP was acquired by Guardian Royal Exchange, part of the AXA Group, in 1993. This year also saw the acquisition of Denplan, the UK’s leading dental payment specialist. In 1998 it launched its corporate scheme Back to Health. |
| 2002 |
To reflect its new ownership, the company was renamed AXA PPP healthcare in 2002. |
| 2009 |
AXA PPP healthcare International was created in response to the growing international market. |
