UK twice as likely to gamble with health than with money

Published on 06/02/2012

A new survey has found that Brits are twice as likely to gamble with their health than with their money or their career.

AXA Wealth carried out a survey of 2008 adults, and found that nearly a fifth (18%) of people are likely to take risks with their health over any other area of their life.

This figure is twice the number of people who would take a risk with their money (9%) or their career (9%).

According to the survey, 35 to 44 year olds are most likely to take risks when it comes to health (22%), compared to just 13% of 18 to 24 year olds.

But in fact millions more Brits are actually gambling with their health by taking part in the NHS postcode lottery.

The NHS costs £30k earners around £1,350 a year in tax. This £1,350 ‘ticket’ guarantees healthcare in the UK.

However, the NHS postcode lottery dictates the quality and speed of this free service. There is a huge variation in NHS hospitals across the UK because of financial pressure and cuts.

Investing in private medical insurance is the best way to stop gambling with your health. Private medical cover will complement the service provided by the NHS, and give you peace of mind and choice over your healthcare.
