A hospital in England is to be the subject of an inquiry after it was discovered that there had been inaccurate reporting of the number of patients that were waiting too long for emergency treatment.
The hospital in question, Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, claimed that 98 per cent of patients had been waiting less than four hours.
Peter Homa, chief executive of the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, said: "Our absolute priority and requirement is to ensure that any performance information reporting from the trust is both accurate and honest."
According to the Evening Post, he added: "We would like to reassure our patients and the public that this has not in any way affected the standard of care our patients have received."
Independent auditors will now be brought in to ensure that correct procedures are followed when recording patient waiting times.
It is believed that only a small number of records were affected.
Last week Queen's Medical Hospital was given a good report from the Department of Health over its work to improve patient privacy and dignity.
