A growing number of people are agreeing to donate their brains to medical research following their deaths, it has been revealed.
According to the
Parkinson's Disease Society, over 2,300 people signed up to help scientists develop new treatments for the condition following an appeal in April.
This brings the total number of donors to 4,000, a figure which includes such famous faces as Jane Asher, Jeremy Paxman and John Stapleton.
Interestingly, the charity revealed that twice as many women have agreed to give their brains to science as men.
Asher, president of the charity, said: "Our appeal for more brain donors this year has been hugely successful, but we still need more help."
Parkinson's disease affects younger people with approximately one in 20 sufferers under the age of 40 when they are diagnosed.
