Almost 85 per cent of people living in Wales consider the current care system for the elderly to be unfair, according to Saga.
Recent research carried out on behalf of the health insurance provider by polling company Populus found that one in five over 50s in Wales support the proposal to use an insurance policy to fund their future care.
Emma Soames, editor of Saga Magazine, commented: "Many people don't want to face the fact that they or their loved ones may, at some time, require long-term care yet almost all of us know somebody who has been forced to sell their family home to pay for care."
She added that while the current system is "outdated", there is not yet a united proposal for change that caters to everyone's individual needs.
In the UK, over 60s are entitled to free prescriptions and are advised to have routine medical tests in order to reduce the risk of health care expenses.
