Charity recognised for lung disease campaign

Published on 27/10/2009
The British Lung Foundation (BLF) has been rewarded for its work using data to identify people with undiagnosed lung disease in the UK.

Experian teamed up with the health charity to create a model for the number of people at risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Based on the findings, the BLF launched a pilot campaign in South Tyneside, where their research suggested people were 62 per cent more likely to be admitted to hospital with COPD than the national average.

David Horton from the charity said: "The BLF is dedicated to finding and communicating with people who are living with respiratory disease.

"The methodology we used in these campaigns has enabled us to help many people and direct them to medical care and support which could change their lives."

Respiratory disease is the second biggest killer in the UK, accounting for one in five deaths.
