Bupa has unveiled an alternative to full-priced
health insurance with the launch of a low-cost plan.
Entitled Bupa Cash Plan, the scheme allows participants to receive many of the benefits of traditional health insurance for as little as £11.70 a month provided they are under 40 years of age.
The company offers three levels of cover at a fixed annual cost, ranging from £400 a year for day-patient surgery in a hospital and £600 a year for consultations to £2,000 a year for in-patient hospital stays.
Emma Exelby, sales manager for Bupa Cash Plan, said: "Having listened to our customers, we have designed a product which gives people access to consultants as early as possible so that they can quickly find out what's wrong and get the right treatment as quickly as possible, all at an affordable price."
Rival health insurance provider Aviva recently launched a low-cost package of its own.
Called Speedy Diagnostics, the plan offers quick access to specialist consultations and diagnostic tests such as MRI and CT scans, as well as 24-hour GP and stress counselling helplines.
