Aviva UK Health has updated its cancer cover for patients with private medical insurance, in response to a demand for a more comprehensive policy.
Experts have recently suggested that cancer cover is the ‘grey area’ of health insurance, with more clarity needed about what a policy does and does not cover. Aviva now say that their cancer cover is "one of the most extensive on the market".
Dr Doug Wright, head of clinical development, Aviva, UK Health said "Our customers told us that they want the peace of mind that we’ll pay for their cancer treatment in full for as long as their specialist says they need it – so that’s what we’re giving them through our cancer pledge."
Cancer treatments recommended by medical specialists will be covered in full. This not only includes standard treatment like chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but also cancer drugs which have been rejected for use on the NHS, like Avastin and Yervoy.
Their new upgrade also offers ‘aftercare’ benefits, like cover for consultations with dieticians, and help with the cost of wigs, up to a certain limit. It will also cover routine check-ups for ten years and will donate up to £10,000 to a hospice or charity for end of life care.
It will apply from 1 January 2012 to both group and individual customers buying or renewing a policy. Compare health insurance policies online now to gain peace of mind about your future healthcare.
