Health insurance provider Aviva has launched a new low-cost policy aimed at delivering a quick diagnosis to concerned patients.
Called Speedy Diagnostics, the new insurance plan offers prompt access to specialist consultations and diagnostic tests.
The policy comes with no overall maximum benefit limit as well as cover for diagnostic tests including MRI and CT scans and any hospital costs related to diagnostics.
Access to 24 hour GP and stress counselling helplines is also included, as is a discount of up to 40 per cent on leisure club and gym membership.
Neal Archbold, head of propositions and market development at Aviva UK Health, said the policy is intended as an alternative to full
private health insurance for those on a smaller budget.
"Speedy Diagnostics does just that by helping to diagnose problems quickly and enabling customers to make informed decisions about next steps of treatment - whether it's provided by the NHS or on a self-pay basis," he said.
Last year, research by the Healthcare Commission revealed that almost one in ten complaints to the NHS relates to a delay in diagnosis or the wrong diagnosis being made, problems which
medical insurance policies such as Speedy Diagnostics aim to resolve.
