Trade bodies AMII (Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries) and BIBA (British Insurance Brokers Association) held an industry meeting to discuss the issue of claims sharing in London on 21 January.
Some insurers argue that the larger insurers have most to lose commercially by claims sharing (and that smaller insurers have most to gain), while others see data protection and competition issues as precluding a wider adoption of claims sharing.
AMII chairman Mike Izzard and BIBA's Peter Staddon said: "At this stage there are no proposals on the table to change industry practice, but it is important that all parties understand the issues and the various viewpoints if we are ever to develop a consensus on best practice that is in the best long term interests of all our SME clients."
A further meeting is scheduled for the spring to continue the dialogue.
