What is Eczema?
Eczema, or Dermatitis, is a condition that causes the skin to become itchy, red, dry and cracked. It is a long-term, or chronic, condition.
There are many different types of eczema. These include atopic eczema, discoid eczema, seborrhoeic eczema and pompholyx eczema.
How common is Eczema?
Eczema is a common condition. Atopic eczema affects about 10 to 20 per cent of schoolchildren and 3 to 5 per cent of adults in the UK, and this number is increasing over time.

Symptoms of eczema include itchiness, redness, thickening of the skin, blisters and crusts.
How is Eczema treated?
Eczema can be treated with medications including emollients, antibiotics and topical corticosteroids. Self-care methods involve reducing scratching, avoiding triggers and a change in diet.
